Summary of Robinhood

Robinhood was created and launched in 2013 by two roommates (Vladimir Tenec and Baju Bhatt who wanted to deliver options trading to the average American person that came with no commissions. As a result of Robinhood coming on the scene and offering this kind of trading for the everyday person, many other competitors after them began to push commission-free options and EFTs. Over the years, it became so common that commission-free trading became an industry-standard in online options trading, making Robinhood a real trendsetter.

Account Types and Minimums

Compared to Webull, Robinhood is the simpler of the two trading platforms, so it naturally has fewer account types. However, it has comparable account minimum requirements to maintain, just like Webull. Traders who are looking for the best variety of account types will be happier with Webull, although other trading apps beyond these two have a much wider range.

different_accounts

Webull Account Types

Types of Accounts

  • Advisor Accounts: Get automated and personalized investment services through Smart Advisors. Traders can tailor this service to their preferred risk tolerance, and they can enjoy six diversified portfolios through these advisor accounts.
  • Cash Accounts: Traders can fund these cash accounts with their own money before they can buy or sell securities, but they must pay the complete amount for any purchased security. These accounts can be used to trade up to option level two.
  • Entity Accounts: Hold an account that’s in the name of a legal entity that can be used to conduct trading, manage investments, or hold financial instruments. These entity accounts include partnerships, corporations, or LLCs.
  • Futures Accounts: Trade futures contracts with Webull.
  • Margin Accounts: Webull traders can use their funds and securities as collateral to purchase other securities. It helps leverage investments to maximize returns, however increased losses are a real possibility.
  • Rollover IRAs: Webull offers independent retirement accounts that receive funds from a qualified retirement plan. They work a lot like a traditional IRA where you can use pre-tax dollars to save for retirement.
  • Roth IRAs: Investors can contribute their after-tax dollars to save for their retirement plans using these tax-advantaged retirement accounts at Webull.
  • Traditional IRAs: Traders can save up for retirement using their pre-tax dollars. Traditional IRAs are excellent tax-advantaged retirement accounts.

Minimum Balance Requirements

Although Webull’s standard brokerage accounts don’t come with minimum balance requirements, there are a few minimum balances that traders must maintain when using some of Webull’s other account types:

  • $100 minimum balance for Smart Advisor accounts
  • Unlimited day trading has a $25,000 minimum balance requirement
  • Trading spreads have a $2,000 minimum balance
  • Margin accounts have a minimum balance of $2,000

Robinhood Account Types

Types of Accounts

  • Cash Accounts: Traders can fund these cash accounts with their own money before they can buy or sell securities. You won’t find any required minimum to begin investing. Money generated from option sales has a waiting time of one day before it can be used, and cash from stock sales has a waiting period of two days.
  • IRA Accounts: Traders can take advantage of limited margin and cash IRA accounts. It’s important to note that traders or investors cannot borrow against the value of their IRA holdings or create a debit balance. However, they can trade unsettled funds from their options and stock sales.
  • Margin Accounts: With a $2,000 minimum to open, these Robinhood margin accounts let traders borrow money to purchase securities. Traders must pay interest on the money borrowed (12% for regular members and 8% for Gold members).

Minimum Balance Requirements

To maintain certain types of accounts at Robinhood, traders and investors must satisfy some minimum balance requirements, but there’s no minimum requirement to simply open a new account.

  • Margin Accounts: Maintain a minimum balance of $2,000
  • Instant Deposits (Basic Account): Primary accounts must maintain a minimum balance of $1,000
  • Instant Deposits (Robinhood Gold): Maintain a minimum balance of $50,000 for a portfolio value of $50,000, a minimum balance of $25,000 for a portfolio value of $25,000, a minimum balance of $10,000 for a portfolio value of $10,000, and a minimum balance of $5,000 if a portfolio value is under $10,000

Trading Platform Features

Webull and Robinhood are both great from a usability standpoint, but each trading app caters to a different kind of investor. Robinhood has the most user-friendly design and features a completely self-explanatory interface—this is because it’s geared toward beginners who are looking for very basic options and margin trading. Webull, while easy to use in its own right, is a bit more difficult to learn because it applies to newer traders who are working their way to the intermediate trading level. Ultimately, we have to give the win to Robinhood due to its intuitive setup.

Webull Platform

Interface and User Experience

The Webull website and mobile app are both intuitively designed, which is something we found quickly during our couple of weeks of testing out the platform. Some trading tools and customization options can be harder for newer traders to take in, but it’s not a situation where you feel as though you’re in over your head. Webull performs strongly in terms of reliability and speed—they claim its website execution quality is 98.96% for trades up to 99 shares. This would make it a bit better than the average trading app with a typical execution quality of 96.95%.

Customization Options

• Adjust chart settings with various technical indicators
• Create multiple layouts for different strategies
• Create your ideal trading environment across stocks, cryptos, and options
• Personalize your interface by adding, removing, and resizing widgets
• Set up custom color schemes

Mobile and Desktop Compatibility

Webull comes as a website and there’s a mobile app available at Google Play and the App Store. Traders can use Webull’s platform from the convenience of their desktop computer or they can take their trading sessions on the go via the mobile app. Traders can also access the website via their iOS or Android smartphones or tablets—downloading the app is necessary to take Webull on the go.

Robinhood Platform

Interface and User Experience

Robinhood was designed as a trading app for newer traders who wanted to learn the basic ins and outs of options trading and other investments. It has resulted in a more straightforward user interface that makes for a manageable and stress-free experience for traders or investors.

A great example of this is the Robinhood stock screeners which can help you look for stocks or ETFs using more than 20 unique filters. Charting tools are another good example of an easy-to-navigate feature of Robinhood. Traders can use moving averages, relative strength index (RSI), and moving average convergence divergence (MACD) to make the best trading decisions.

Customization Options

• Adjust the size or placement of different screen elements
• Choose color themes
• Choose technical indicators (moving averages, relative strength index, Bollinger Bands, etc.)
• Choose timeframe selection (daily, weekly, monthly, etc.)
• Drawing tools like horizontal and trend lines
• Select chart types like candlestick or line
• Watchlist custom—add specific stocks or ETFs

Mobile and Desktop Compatibility

Whether you’re using the Robinhood website or mobile app, you’re going to have the same experience for the most part, although the app might be a bit more intuitive to use. Download the app from either Google Play or the App Store to use on your smartphone or tablet. You can also visit the website using these devices if you prefer.

Options Trading Tools

options_tools

Webull and Robinhood have some comparable trading tools, but we’ll have to give the slight edge to Webull and its slightly more advanced tools that are geared toward intermediate traders or investors. As you read, you’ll find that it’s not really a competition—Webull has some more sophisticated tools and features for more in-depth trading sessions.

Webull

  • Account Types: Traders will find many different account types at Webull like cash, margin, or futures accounts. There are also the standard and Roth IRA accounts for retirement planning.

  • Watchlists: Design different watchlists to stay on top of securities and when they might become available for buying.
  • Wide Range of Investment Products: Webull offers trading on instruments like options, stocks, ETFs., futures, and commodities, which is decent considering the limited product range for new traders/investors.

Robinhood

  • Commission-free trading on stocks, options, cryptos, ETFs
  • Get paid up to two days early with direct deposit
  • Use stock screeners to find stocks or ETFs using more than 20 unique filters
  • Automated investing is offered on Robinhood

  • Buy fractional shares if you’re an investor with a smaller amount of capital
  • Robinhood Gold gets you 5% on uninvited cash, bigger instant deposits, and margin investing at a better interest rate
  • Trade cryptos like Bitcoin, USD Coin, Dogecoin, Ethereum, and others

Fees and Commissions

Webull and Robinhood are comparable when it comes to the cost of operating. Both platforms have the lower fees that newer traders are looking for as they gain experience in the online options trading and investing realm. However, one platform might be better than the other depending on your trading volume or margin usage and it’s mostly due to margin interest rates.

  • ATM Withdrawals—In-network and out-of-network ATM withdrawals have a fee of $2.50. Robinhood refunds ATM withdrawal fees if there are direct deposits of $300 or more within 24 days before the withdrawal.
  • External Debit Card Account Withdrawals—A fee of 1.75% is charged by Robinhood with these kinds of withdrawals.

Discounts for High-Volume Traders

Robinhood has no tiered pricing structures for active traders and there aren’t any discounts for high-volume traders either. This is because the platform is catered toward commission-free trading on options, stocks, and ETFs, regardless of how much volume the investor is doing.

Webull doesn’t offer discounts for high-volume traders, unfortunately.

Market Access

Webull is generally considered to have better market access compared to Robinhood. Not only do they have more advanced trading tools, but their trading hours are better, and they feature a wider range of tradeable assets, making them the clear winner of this comparison category. This makes sense since Robinhood is ideal for beginners and offers less due to the trader’s experience level with options or investing.

  • Futures: Webull traders can enjoy dealing with futures contracts that come with competitive margins and rates.
  • Money Market Funds: Webull offersTreasury, Government, and Prime Obligation Funds and they have same-day settlement options.

  • Stock Options: Access options contracts on stocks and ETFs on US exchanges.

Webull User Feedback

Trustpilot Review—Dated December 16, 2024

“I submitted a request to transfer my portfolio from Trading212 to my WeBull account. Regrettably, they denied my request for unfounded reasons. They stated that they only accept stock transfers with a minimum price of $5 and a market capacity exceeding 300 million (this crucial information was not mentioned or highlighted during the transfer request). Furthermore, all my stocks I wanted to transfer into my Webull are currently traded on Webull platform, but they are very elective . This lack of transparency is deeply disappointing.”

Ameer Oudah

Trustpilot Review—Dated January 9, 2025

“My pending orders were cancelled without my approval, It’s almost impossible to get a refund with this company. The customer care representative are so unfriendly, Navigating to the comp mentioned above in display pic saved me from sudden heart attack. Lost all my money at Webull.”

Marie

SiteJabber Review—Dated June 2, 2024

“Untrustworthy company. Huge delays with payments on Webull and not providing answers but more excuses and further lies. Stay away and don’t trust any positive reviews you see here as well, they only trying to get their new customers to keep falling for their trick so they can steal all their deposits.
I read about all the good work and positive impact gvrrecuperattor.online is having on victims of cryptocurrency scams I knew they were the ones that would surely help recover my funds successfully. I reached out to them and provided them with all of the information that they requested. They are definitely not only very good but also have a lot of experience from having successfully recovered funds from and taken down several crypto scams. I got back all of my funds down to the very last cent.”

Robinhood User Feedback

Trustpilot Review—Dated December 13, 2023

“I have nothing bad to say about my experience with Robinhood. In fact, I absolutely love it. It is always easy for me to make any transactions on Robinhood. Whether it is buying stock or transferring funds, everything happens quickly. I am a very hard to please consumer. But Robinhood has exceeded my expectations. I have never had difficulty in contacting customer service. Maybe I’m just lucky. But I have transferred all my holdings to Robinhood, and I have been very glad that I did. Highly recommend.”

David Oakes

Trustpilot Review—Dated December 23, 2023

“I love trading crypto n stocks on Hood. I e had lots winning. Lots of luck on the site. I love the technology. The graphs and quotes is very detailed and help me makes decisions. Some other brokers don’t have good charts, slow tech. Great service, I was called several times after I emailed. Doing very well very happy. I def recommend you to try it. It’s fun n relaxing , some other brokers make trading service seems like neck choking unnecessary.”

Ocean

Trustpilot Review—Dated December 27, 2024

“Problem with account being restricted because I tried to transfer too much money at one time back into my bank account. Alloweed only $1000 per day and I did not pay due dilligence, they restricted account and when I tried to contact them they said they would call me. No phone call and still waiting on account to be back to normal but nothing yet, they have my money and will not allow me to do anything with it for several days now. I am losing money and losing patience with this company and would not recommend them to anyone.”

Community and Resources

Webull users can access the community tab to ask questions, create polls, or discuss trading strategies. It’s a terrific place for members to connect and share ideas in a communal setting. A few of the primary community features include the newsfeed, the stock ticker, and polls.

Robinhood has no built-in forum or dedicated chat feature. Robinhood’s limited community feature is mostly based on its referral programs. These are where current members are rewarded when getting their family or friends to sign up. Users with successful referrals will get a gift stock in exchange for every successful referral.

This makes sense since Robinhood is ideal for beginners and offers less due to the trader’s experience level with options or investing.
  • Ease of Use: Robinhood is well-known for its excellent ease of use, specifically among beginners. We have to give them a leg up on Webull when it comes to overall usability and website/app design. During our time testing out both platforms and based on what we’ve read from online reviews on Webull and Robinhood, we feel that Robinhood offered the most intuitive experience, which isn’t surprising because it’s designed with new traders in mind.
