If you are curious about or interested in getting into options trading but aren’t really sure where you should even start, don’t worry; you have options (yes, the pun is intended).
For the newbies, the best bet is to take an options trading course—but there are a lot of them out there! Which ones are worth it? What’s the cost? How do I pick the best one for me? There are so many questions!
The right one can really make a difference, so we thought we’d help out and do the grunt work of sifting through the available ones and tell you what the 5 best options trading courses in 2026 are.
Each course is tailor-made for different skill levels and goals, and by the end of our guide, you can just pick from our handy list the one that will work best for you.
Why Take an Options Trading Course?
If you think that options trading is just making quick trades, think again; it’s a complicated and nuanced field that requires traders to understand strategies, manage risk, and always keep up with market trends. Financial markets are always unpredictable, and the value of proper education cannot be understated! Formal training from a trusted source or organization verifies that you aren’t relying only on guesses or advice that is no longer useful. With a reputable course, you’ll be learning from experts who can teach and talk you through the complicated concepts so you can apply the knowledge you gain to real trades.
An education grounded in structured, reliable courses means you are able to stay ahead of the game. Without it, you might struggle to negotiate the intricacies of options trading and miss out on strategies that could make or break your trades. Learning the ins and outs of different trading techniques, pricing models, and risk management will give you the base you need to make confident decisions!
Market Dynamics in 2026
The financial markets are changing faster than ever before—the volatility is fueled by a mix of economic uncertainty and technological progress. In 2026, we’ve seen huge influences like global inflation, economic slowdowns, and geopolitical events that have caused major swings in market prices. And these movements directly affect how options are priced, making it a must to understand how these forces play into your trading strategy.
On top of that, technology is changing the trading world—artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, and algorithmic trading are slowly becoming central to modern strategies. Trading platforms now have data analysis tools that make it easier to anticipate market changes and act fast, and for the traders who aren’t aware of or comfortable with these kinds of technologies, there’s a real danger of being left in the dust.
Another important factor is the growing trend of short-dated options, which lets traders speculate on near-term market movements. The increase in low-priced options being traded, particularly by retail traders, signals that market behavior is changing. Short-term trades are riskier, making it that much more important to have a solid grasp of market dynamics.
The Benefits of Taking a Course
A well-structured options trading course takes most of the guesswork out of learning. Rather than trying to piece together bits of knowledge here and there from different online resources, a course lays out the material in a logical, easy-to-follow way. You won’t just be learning basic definitions—you’ll be taught l to understand how the different strategies work, how to apply them in various market conditions, and when to walk away.
Most courses also connect you with mentors, which is incredibly valuable when you’re engaging in something as elaborate as options trading. Experienced traders will share their real-world insights and knowledge, which is priceless for seeing past theoretical knowledge so you can understand how strategies play out in live markets. Personalized guidance can dramatically speed up your learning curve—-you get direct answers to your questions and the benefit of learning from both their successes and mistakes.
In addition to the structured learning and mentorship, being part of a course comes with access to a community of fellow traders. Peer interaction can be just as beneficial as the material itself—having a group to bounce ideas off of or get advice from will keep you in the loop and help you think more critically about your own strategies.
Finally, practical application is where the theory becomes a reality. All of the courses we recommend have simulations or demo accounts that let you practice what you’ve learned without risking your own capital. Hands-on experience is invaluable because it allows you to see how strategies unfold in real time—it’s a conduit between learning and execution.
What to Look for in a Good Options Trading Course
What should you look for in a good options trading course? A few things, including the following:
Accreditation and Reputation

When you are evaluating options trading courses, always start by checking if the course or platform has a good rep. While formal accreditation isn’t always necessary (although we recommend it), looking for well-known instructors and platforms that have received positive feedback is super important. If the course doesn’t come highly recommended, that’s a red flag!
Course Format
The format of the course is something to consider as well and should be based on how you like to learn. Some courses are all self-paced, where you study at your own convenience. Others have live sessions with more interactive elements, like Q&A segments. For those who want a classroom experience, some platforms also have hybrid models where you can take part in both live and pre-recorded sessions. Each format comes with its pros and cons, so it’s important to pick one that meets your lifestyle and learning preferences.
Options trading courses are made for specific skill levels, so if you’re just starting out or want to improve your knowledge, make sure you choose a course that matches your current level. Beginner-level courses will cover the fundamentals like calls, puts, and basic strategies, and the advanced courses go into intricate strategies like spreads and iron condors.
Instructor Expertise
The instructor’s qualifications are another important consideration! It’s always a good idea to research the person teaching the course—do they have real-world trading experience? Have they been successful in the market themselves? Ideally, you’ll want someone who isn’t just well-versed in theory but has practical experience and can bring real-life examples to the course. A solid background with a history of successful trades will give students the insight that is needed in the complicated world of options trading.
Student Support and Community
A good course doesn’t just come with structured lessons—it also has support for those in the classes. Some courses include mentorship or direct access to instructors via forums or live chats. Others have a community where students can exchange ideas, swap strategies, and give support to each other. A community aspect is incredibly beneficial, especially when you’re learning something as technical as options trading. Access to peer support or a mentor who can give you feedback on your strategies makes learning easier.
Practical Applications
It’s also important to look for a course that doesn’t just teach theory but also incorporates real-world applications. Some courses have simulations where you can practice trades without endangering your own money, or they will walk you through live case studies. Practical applications are invaluable and can make all the difference between learning concepts and executing them in a real trading environment. Without these hands-on opportunities, it’s hard to get how certain strategies play out fully.
Course Reviews and Testimonials
Always read through reviews from previous students so you can get a good feel for what you can expect from the course. Are the lessons comprehensive? Do students feel like they’re getting valuable info? Are there any complaints about certain aspects of the course? Real user reviews are one of the best ways to gauge if a course is right for you.

- No Live Trading with Real Money: The practical simulations are a great learning tool, but some learners might feel a disconnect between simulated trading and real-world emotional and financial stakes. While this is a safe way to practice, the absence of real-money trading experience may stunt understanding of how real market conditions impact trades.
- Potential for Info Overload: Although the course is designed to be accessible, beginners might still find the amount of info overwhelming. Options trading can be convoluted, and even though the lessons are broken down step by step, there is still a big learning curve for those who are new to the field.
How to Choose the Right Options Trading Course for You

Now that you know what the best 5 options trading courses are and what they offer, you can choose the right one for you? But how do you do that? By considering all of the relevant factors, like the learning formats and pricing options available, among other things. Look below for more guidance on how to pick one!
Skill Level
Before you even think about signing up for any course, you need to take an honest look at your skill level. Are you a total beginner who is trying to wrap your head around what options trading even is, or do you have experience and want to hone your strategies? Courses range from beginner-level basics (re: understanding calls and puts) to the more advanced strategies like iron condors or options spreads. If you’re new, look for courses that cover the basics but don’t completely overwhelm you with advanced concepts from the jump.
For first-timers, Udemy’s Options Trading Basics is a good starting point—it’s affordable and built to take you through the fundamentals without heading straight for complicated strategies. And if you are at an intermediate or advanced level, you’ll find courses like Simpler Trading’s 6-Options Gold Course more useful because they get into more intricate strategies and real-time trading scenarios.
Learning Style
Do you do well in a self-paced environment where you can take your time, or do you need the structure of live sessions to keep you engaged and motivated? There’s no wrong answer here—it’s just what works best for you!
Self-paced courses are good for those who need or want flexibility, like Udemy, where you can log in and learn at your own pace. The self-paced platforms have lifetime access, so you can go back to lessons anytime you need a refresher.
But if you want more interaction, live sessions like those offered by TastyTrade or Simpler Trading provide real-time trading examples and opportunities to ask questions. Interactive platforms might be more your speed and style if you learn better with hands-on guidance.
Budget
Courses vary in price, from free introductory options to thousands of dollars for more in-depth, mentor-led programs. You should think about how much you’re willing to invest upfront.
For those on a tighter budget, free options like Option Alpha’s introductory resources or affordable courses like those on Udemy are solid starting points. The courses give you a lot of bang for your buck and cover the essentials without making a big dent in your budget.
If you’re looking for a more personalized, hands-on experience and are ready and able to spend more, platforms like Simpler Trading have higher-end courses with mentorship and live trading examples.
Time Commitment
Think realistically about how much time you can commit to learning options trading. Some courses are relatively short and can be completed in just a few hours, while others span weeks or even months.
If you’re balancing a full-time job or other responsibilities, you probably don’t have hours to dedicate every day. In this case, shorter, self-paced courses are way better suited for you. Courses on Udemy have flexible timelines so that you can learn at your own pace.
If you do have more time to invest, you could opt for the more in-depth courses with regular live trading sessions or extended mentorship, like those from Simpler Trading or Benzinga Options, which have structured learning paths but require bigger time investments!
Bonus Tips for Succeeding in Your Options Trading Course
Look, to succeed in options trading takes a lot more than just completing an online course. You have to implement what you learned in those lessons and go down the rabbit hole of how the market works, how you think as a trader, and how you can up your skills— and we have bonus tips that will help!
Consistent Practice
It’s not enough to just absorb the material; you need to get your hands dirty! The great thing about good trading courses is that they come with practice features like simulated environments. If you’ve got access to those, use them, and use them a lot! Simulated trading lets you get a feel for how the strategies you learn in the course work without a real monetary risk. Even if it’s just virtual, practicing every day betters your instincts, and you can experiment with different strategies in real time.
And don’t worry if you make mistakes during practice—that’s all part of the process. Treat every simulated trade as a learning moment. Take note of what worked, what didn’t, and why.
Engage with the Community

If your course comes with access to forums, live sessions, or chat rooms, make use of them! Being part of a trading community isn’t just getting help with questions—it’s about exchanging strategies, getting new and different perspectives, and staying motivated. Options trading can be pretty overwhelming when you’re doing it solo, but when you connect with other traders, you get the benefit of their experience and knowledge—and they get yours!
Don’t be shy—ask those questions, even if you’re afraid that they are basic because chances are, someone else is wondering the same thing. There are no stupid questions! Plus, being active in a trading community can turn into collabs, mentorships, or a solid network to lean on when you’re unsure about something.
Track Your Progress
Remember when we told you earlier to take notes? We weren’t kidding. One of the best tools in any trader’s kit is an options trading journal. We know it sounds like homework, but keeping track of every trade—successful or not—helps you learn faster. Write down what strategy you used, why you made certain decisions, and how the trade turned out. The goal here is to spot patterns. Maybe you’ll notice that a particular strategy works well in certain market conditions or that your emotions got the better of you and played a part in a loss. Over time, your notes will be a personal diary to become a better trader.
Don’t just write down your wins, either. Losses make some of the biggest lessons. Analyzing your losses without being too hard on yourself means you can figure out where things went off course and how to improve.
Stay Updated
The market is always changing, and strategies that work today will probably need adjustments tomorrow. That’s why staying updated is a must! Yes, your course covers a lot, but once you’re done, you shouldn’t stop learning. Follow financial news, check in on trading forums, and see what strategies are trending in the market.
Most platforms, like TastyTrade or Option Alpha, give updates and new tools for traders long after you’ve completed their courses. Keeping an eye out for updates means you stay on top of your game. Also, it’s always a good idea to hit up webinars or short refresher courses—this way, your knowledge won’t be outdated.
Conclusion: School is in Session
Picking the right options trading course isn’t simply learning a few strategies—it’s about finding one that fits your needs, skill level, and style. Frequently Asked Questions
You didn’t think we’d leave you without a few FAQs, did you? Of course, we wouldn’t! Below are the most frequently asked questions our readers have asked about options trading and courses!
What’s the best options trading course for beginners in 2026?
For someone who is just getting started, we think TastyTrade’s Beginner Options Trading Course is a solid choice. It’s practical, easy to follow, and free, which is always a bonus. You’ll learn the basics and get hands-on experience with their simulated trading features.
Another great option is Udemy’s Complete Guide to Options Trading. It’s affordable, and since it’s self-paced, you can take your time going through the material. Plus, you get lifetime access, which is super helpful for revisiting concepts in the future!
We would also strongly recommend downloading our free Options Trading for Beginners PDF. This will help give you a solid starting point for your learning.
Are there any free options trading courses?
Yep! There are several free options out there. TastyTrade has a free beginner’s course that’s a great starting point. You can learn the basics without spending any money and practice your skills in real-time scenarios.
Option Alpha also has excellent free content to help beginners get more familiar with options trading—they even have free tools to play around with, but the more advanced features do come with a cost.
How long does it take to complete an options trading course?
That really depends on the course and how much time you have to dedicate to it. A quick, self-paced course like those on Udemy could take anywhere from a weekend to a couple of weeks, depending on how fast you want to go. If you’re looking at a more intensive course with live sessions, like Simpler Trading’s 6-Options Gold Course, you could be looking at a few weeks to a few months.
Can I trade options without taking a course?
Technically, yes–you can start trading without a formal course, but we don’t recommend it. Contrary to popular opinion, options trading is not just buying and selling! You’ll be dealing with strategies, market volatility, and risk management, which gets complicated fast. Taking at least a basic course will help in terms of avoiding expensive mistakes and give you a solid base to start from.
That being said, if you’re a self-learner, you can use free online resources, read up on strategies, and practice with simulated trading platforms before using real money. But for most people, having structured guidance is invaluable for building confidence and dodging rookie mistakes.
